flat die pellet mill

Flat die pellet mills can produce pellet feed and organic fertilizer. Its finished particles are columnar. It bears advantages like a high granulating rate, good strength, and a beautiful appearance.

Additionally, it is integrated with an electric reducer to reduce transmission, increase efficiency and reduce energy consumption. It is an ideal equipment for your production of organic fertilizer and pellet feed. You can use it for pelleting various organic fertilizers after composting.

The produced cylindrical particles can be adjusted in length and size without the need for drying, making it more convenient for you.

features of Flat die pellet Mill

  • Firstly, the flat die granulator uses dry extrusion granulation method. So you don’t need any drying or cooling machine during granulating process. By virtue of this, you can get high capacity by low energy consumption. Otherwise, it is very simple for you to operate. After granulating, you can connect it to a polishing machine to roll them into balls in one step.
  • Secondly, flat die granulator is not large, so it won’t take too much space of your factory. It adopts cold press forming technology and has beautiful appearance.
  • Thirdly, this flat die pellet machine has low noise and can achieve continuous production, which is both economical and durable.

Flat Die Pellet Mill Applications and Scope Of Use

The flat-die pellet machine can help you make pellets of coarse fibers such as sawdust, rice husk, cotton stalk, cottonseed hull, weeds and other crop straws. Otherwise, it is also suitable for dry granulation and can make bio fertilizer and organic fertilizer. The flat die pellet machine is especially suitable for your small-scale chicken and pig farms to make fertilizer pellets. All in all, it is versatile, convenient and affordable.

How to choose an appropriate die molds?

In general, you can choose a size according to the size of your poultry or livestock.

We have three different parameters of flat die pelletizers and can produce pellets with a diameter from 2mm to 10mm. If you need to make feed pellets for fish or birds, a mold with a diameter of 3mm is enough.

Similarly, for duck or chicken, a diameter with 4mm is enough. Moreover, a larger diameter is suitable for livestock, like pig or sheep.

Difference Between Flat Die Granulators and Ring Die Granulators

Feeding method

The ring die pellet mill uses a mechanically forced feeding method. The material is distributed by a scraper, causing uneven feeding. While the flat die pellet mill relies on the weight of the material itself to enter the compression chamber and can feed evenly.

Pressure

In the same-diameter mold, you cannot adjust pressure. So it is challenging to form particles when you press coarse fiber materials such as sawdust and peanut shells. Even if formed, the machine is subject to overload, which causes significant wear on the machine. The mold of ring die granulators can only be used once, which will cost you a lot.

The flat die pellet mill uses three conical pressure rollers with a complete steel structure. The mold rotates to drive the three pressure rollers above to rotate, and you can adjust the pressure. It can ensure you a stable output. In addition, the size of the flat die press roller is not limited by the diameter of the mold. The internal space of the shaft can be enlarged, and you can select a larger bearing to enhance the bearing capacity of the press roller and improve the pressing force and service life of the press roller

Discharging method

The ring die belongs to high-speed rotation, and the material has a high breakage rate when discharged. On the contrary, the flat die belongs to low-speed rotation, and the breakage rate is low.

Adjustment method of the press roller

The ring die pellet mill uses two screws on the eccentric wheel in the middle of the roller to adjust the pressure. The flat die pellet mill uses a thread column center adjustment mechanism.

From the above comparison, you can see that the ring die pellet mill is suitable for fine feed materials such as corn and soybean meal which are generally easy to shape and do not require a lot of pressure. But for sawdust and organic fertilizer pellets, the flat die pellet mill is a better option.

Precautions When Operating a Flat Die Granulator

  • You should make sure to add gear oil to prevent wear on the transmission components before using the new machine for the first time
  • When you turn on the machine, you need add a small amount of material and then turn it on. When you turn off the machine, you need leave a small amount of feed inside to prevent the machine from idling and the press roll from contacting the grinding disc.
  • During pellet production, you must prevent the press roll and the die plate from idling. Continuous feeding should not be too fast, too slow, or interrupted.
  • If the machine fails to produce pellets or discharge material, you can remove the die plate and clean the blocked feed hole. Then you can add some fiber feed and restart the machine for pellet production.
  • You need regularly check the tightness of the screws in all parts of the machine, replace the oil seal in the gearbox if there is oil leakage, and check if the bearings in the machine head are short of oil. Do not reach into the feed port with your hands while the pellet machine is working. You can use a wooden stick when necessary.
  • If the machine gets stuck during operation, immediately stop the machine, adjust the spacing between the press roll and the grinding disc, and restart it.

Regularly Check The Flat Die Mill

After each operation, you must loosen the press roll bolts.

When using the machine, be careful not to have hard objects such as stones and iron blocks in the raw materials. After working for more than 10 shifts (8 hours per shift), you need to disassemble the lifting wheel, and you should add high-temperature-resistant grease to the bearings to ensure good performance of the rollers and prolong the service life of the bearings.

If the pellets appear broken or compressed improperly, reduce the proportion of coarse fiber material to less than 50%.

Check the tightness of the belt frequently and replace the oil seal in the gearbox in a timely manner if there is oil leakage. When processing materials with a high proportion of fine fibers, add about 5% moisture.

If the mixture contains a high proportion of fine fibers, reduce the amount of water added as appropriate. You can release the moisture during the extrusion process. You can use raw materials with a moisture content of 5-15% to make pellets.
